Drama Day - The Tempest

We were very fortunate today to have a visit from Tony Turner, an experienced actor, and Ray Speakman, an educational consultant, to work with some of our Key Stage 2 children to develop their drama skills. The day was based around Shakespeare's play, The Tempest, and the children were introduced to two key characters - Caliban and Arial. They also used their voices and bodies to create the noise of the storm that happens at the beginning of the play.

The children had a great day and gave some very positive feedback about their work. Over the next few weeks they use The Tempest as the basis for their learning in their classes.

Medieval Mysteries at Warwick Castle

Years 1, 2 and 3 had an amazing day at Warwick Castle discovering what life was like during medieval times.

Their cheers helped to raise the portcullis to let everyone into the Castle. We watched the trebuchet being loaded up and fired, explored the Great Hall, climbed the battlements, discovered birds of prey, watched archers firing long bows and cross bows and explored the Peacock Garden.

The visit really helped to bring the children's learning about the past to life.

" It was wicked, Miss!"

Net Testing

Last week Year 6 constructed their own nets as part of their topic work this term. Today they visited the brook to test whether their constructions had been successful. They were very surprised about the range of creatures they found living in the brook using their nets. The children are now using the evidence they collected to evaluate their constructions.

World Peace Day

Today the children have been thinking about 'Peace' as part of International World Peace Day.
In assembly we thought about how we can all help to make Wolston St Margaret's a peaceful place to be.

The children have created pieces of art work and thought about some of the countries where there may not be peace at the moment.

Year 1 wrote their own thoughts about peace onto card flowers and then floated them on water outside.

School Birthday Card Competition

Well done to Millie Strachan in Year 5 who has won our 'Design a New School Birthday Card Competition'. Millie's card will be used to celebrate all the children's birthdays over the next few years.

A big THANK YOU to all the children who took part in the competition.

Brandon and Wolston Garden Walkabout

The theme this year for the Garden Walkabout is ladybirds and so all the classes have been busy this week creating their own ladybirds. They have been displayed around the school and especially in the growing area.
Well done everyone - the garden looks great!

Foundation Stage Sports Morning

Our youngest children had a wonderful morning of sporting activities on the school field yesterday. Lots of mums, dads, grans, granddads, friends and family came along to support our budding Jessica Ennises and Mo Farrahs. Year 6 were also on hand to help and did a fantastic job setting up and encouraging the younger children.
