Our New Polytunnel and Growing Area

We are delighted that we have been able to develop our vegetable growing area thanks to funding and work from Garden Organic at Ryton as part of their work to 'get schools growing'.
We have  had a new polytunnel, water supply and several raised beds installed. The children have been keen to get involved and some of their salad plants were sold on the playground on Wednesday afternoon. Thank you to Miss Poulton for all her help in organising the project and liaising with Garden Organic.

We would welcome any volunteers who would be able to help us with looking after our garden and growing areas. Please contact the school office if you have any time to spare. Thank you.

Reception Visit to Church

This afternoon our Reception children visited St Margaret's Church with Jayne, our School Chaplain. She talked to them about how a baby is welcomed into the Church during a baptism.

The children then went on a 'dragon hunt' to find as many pictures and images of dragons as they could around the Church.

Finally the children thought about all the things they had to say 'thank you' for and wrote their own prayers on post its.

Wear Something Green Day

The children looked fantastic today in all their green clothes. Thank you to everyone who made a donation to Macmillan Cancer Support. We will let you know the final total once it has all been counted.

Some of the children were able to talk about why we were having a 'green day':

Lauryn - We've come to school wearing green because the man on stilts wore green and even had green hair.
Tate - It's for Macmillan Day to help people who have cancer.
Oliver - When we went to Assembly, Stuart was on metal stilts. He is walking in every street in Coventry
Jacob - We are doing it to raise money like Stuart.

Man on Stilts Spotted at Wolston

Stuart Kettell visited School this morning as part of his Coventry Challenge to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. There was great excitement on the playground before school and the children were fascinated by how tall Stuart was on his stilts. In assembly they asked lots of interesting questions about Stuart's Challenge to walk along every street in Coventry on his stilts and were amazed by his unusual fundraising work.

We wish Stuart every success with his Stilt Walking Challenge and are inviting the children to wear 'something green' as part of a non-uniform day on Friday. All donations will go to Macmillan.

Special Assembly

Karen Berry and her friend Lola the Monkey led our whole school assembly today. They told us the story of Esther and about how she bravely stood up for what was right. Karen and Lola also spoke to the children about how special each person is and how everyone should be treated equally.

Mary said, " I liked the story about the girl. Everyone is good."

Poppy Mae and Alfie said,  " It was fun and we learned everyone is special. Boys are special and girls are special."

Fire Safety

Fire Officers visited Years 1 and 5 today to talk about fire safety. The younger children learned how to 'stop, drop and roll'.

Year 5 watched a fire safety dvd and then had to identify unsafe things in pictures and photographs.

The children had a great morning and now know a lot more about how to keep themselves and their families safe.

Can you recognise the person in the last photograph who bravely dressed up in the safety clothes that firefighters wear to protect themselves?
