Warwickshire Cross Country Finals – March 16th 2013

Nicole and Bradley were both selected to represent the Eastern Area in the finals of the County Cross Country Championships held on Saturday morning just outside Stratford Upon Avon. To say that the running conditions were slightly challenging is somewhat of an understatement – the rain poured for hours and the tracked was extremely muddy and slippery in places, which made it treacherous even when we walked the course before the races started.

The girls’ race was held first and the boys followed promptly behind. Both Nicole and Bradley ran their hearts out in the terrible conditions and both finished the course in the middle of their groups. They were both cold, wet and very mud splattered by the end of their races – I was very glad not to have to wash their running kits and clean their trainers!

A huge ‘WELL DONE’ to Nicole and Bradley and thank you to their families who were there to support them.

Red Nose Day Great Wolston Bake Off – March 15th 2013

Wonderful baked creations began arriving in the hall from eight o’clock on Friday morning and soon the tables were bulging with delicious and delectable offerings from our Nursery children right through the school up to Year 6. The creative use of chocolate, Smarties, liquorice, marshmallows, icing and decorations was incredible.
We had gingerbread men with red noses, caterpillars, zebra cakes, cup cakes, fairy cakes, fruit loaves, biscuits and cookies to name but a few!
A very special ‘thank you’ to Wolston’s Women’s Institute who formed our judging panel. The ladies were so overwhelmed with the range and high standard of the baking that they were unable to choose one ‘Star Baker’ from each class and spent a long time judging all the entries. Eventually they were able to narrow it down to two winners from each year group. All the winners received a special Star Baker certificate and will be presented with prizes on Monday.
Well done to everyone who took part and helped raise money for a very worthy cause – your creativity and baking skills really impressed me!

Star Bakers:
Foundation Stage – Holly and Noah,
Year 1 – Alfie and Kerry-Ann
Year 2 – Ruby and Arbi
Year 3 – Grace and Jake
Year 4 – Kira & Jessica (joint entry) and Millie S
Year 5 – Anna and Thomas
Year 6 – Livvie and Emily

World book day

There was a real buzz in the air on Book Day on Friday with everyone (including the staff) looking slightly different today! Everyone looked amazing dressed up as book characters – some were quite unrecognisable! We had a wide range of characters in each class ranging from hobbits to gruffalos to King Lear! During the morning the whole school came together for a special assembly where the children had to guess the characters from each class. All the classes enjoyed taking part in lots of book related activities back in their classrooms.

A big ‘Thank You’ to those parents who volunteered to come and read to the children – they
really loved the stories you chose.

Science Day

Today has been Science Day and there has been a whole range of fascinating experiments going on in all the classes today.
Some children have investigated which food stuff will colour material the best; in other classrooms they have been looking at how chocolate melts; and our Year 6 children completed an investigation into which treatments change the elasticity of rubber bands.
We have been lucky enough to have some staff from Rugby High School to help with our Science learning today. The children had a wonderful time and were very good at generating ideas and hypotheses to develop their investigation skills.

Welcome to our new blog!

We were treated to an amazing assembly this morning, planned and led by some of our Year 6 children. They did a fantastic job showcasing their incredible talents –

Millie and Emily acted out a scene very dramatically;

Alex stunned us with his amazing martial art skills, breaking tiles and pieces of wood; we learnt how to play a game in German from Ben; Bradley exhausted us by completing 129 speed jumps in one minute; and Annabel’s piano playing was simply stunning.

It was great to see the children leading the whole school with such composure and confidence and made us all feel very proud.
